Dr. Chrysovalantis Papathanasiou is a psychology lecturer and researcher, and a trainee in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). He holds a PhD in Psychology from Aix-Marseille Université and a postgraduate degree (DEA) in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris.

During a postdoctoral fellowship in social psychiatry at Panteion University, supported by the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), his research led to the development of the Borderline Personality Disorder–Inclusive Model of Clinical Intervention (BPD-IMoCI), a framework for understanding and strengthening therapeutic relationships in BPD care.

He has held senior public administration positions, including Deputy Governor of the University General Hospital of Patras and President of the National Centre for Social Solidarity (EKKA). He subsequently managed Greece’s largest mental health programme for refugees and asylum seekers, funded by the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as part of which he founded and led the Refugee Psychosocial Support Centre (RPSC).

He is also the editor of the volume Refugees and Mental Health: Psychosocial Approaches and Interventions.
